HOUSE FIRE CLAIMS LIVES OF 3 PEOPLE IN NADI

National Fire Authority (NFA) attended to a fire emergency call in Nadele at Sabeto Nadi early this morning that claimed the life of a 93-year old man, an 89-year old woman and a 5- month old baby.

At 1.08 am, the Nadi Fire Station was alerted of the house fire and responded immediately. Upon arrival at the scene, the fire team found an 8-bedroom house fully engulfed in flames. The fire crew quickly used one delivery of water from the fire truck to quickly extinguish the fire.

The fire crew managed to extinguish the fire but it was very unfortunate that the body of 3 people were found at the scene, believed to be the occupants of the house.  The house was occupied by a couple, their parents, and their two children.  It is understood that the family was asleep in the house when the fire started.

The couple woke up when they realized there was a fire and immediately went to rescue their father who was bed-ridden and it was unfortunate that they failed to rescue him and their mother. During the haste to escape, their second child who was 5- months old was left behind by which time the fire was too intense for the family to rescue him.

NFA is very saddened by the loss of three lives in the fire and greatly sympathizes with the family on their loss.

NFA is working with the Police to conduct its investigations to determine the cause of the fire and circumstances surrounding the fire victims.
