NFA averted major fire in Suva

National Fire Authority (NFA) attended to a property fire incident at CK Patel building in Jai Hanuman Road in Vatuwaqa, Suva yesterday and saved the CK Patel building from being destroyed in this fire.

At 6.06pm, Suva Fire Station received a fire emergency call and immediately responded.

Upon arrival at 6.14pm, the fire team saw the CK Patel building on fire and found that Surplus Trading Company Limited who was the tenant occupying a portion of the building was fully engulfed in flames.

The fire team quickly got to use deliveries of water from their fire trucks and also used a fire hydrant in the area to extinguish the fire within the Surplus Trading Company building and stopped it from spreading to the adjoining CK Patel warehouse and their electronic business.

Three fire trucks, two from Suva Fire Station and a fire truck from Valelevu Fire Station were engaged to put out the fire.

The Fire Team bravely fought the fire in the Surplus Trading Company building which contained highly flammable materials with stock loads of clothing items which could have caused the fast spread of the fire. The Fire Team successfully contained the fire to the Surplus Trading Company portion of the building and saved the CK Patel electronic company and their bulk store.

NFA has started its investigation with Police to determine the cause of the fire.

Established by virtue of the National Fire Service Act, 1994 the National Fire Authority assumed responsibilities to provide fire services for the entire nation of Fiji in February 1995.
