Wormald Strengthens Community Fire Safety with Key Donation to NFA 2025

Suva, Fiji – In a meaningful gesture of corporate support and national service, Wormald Fire & Security has donated 20 units of 2kg Dry Powder Fire Extinguishers and 20 fire blankets to the National Fire Authority, reinforcing a shared commitment to safeguarding lives and preserving cultural heritage.

The donation comes in preparation for one of the most significant traditional events in Fiji’s recent history, the installation of the Paramount Chief of Lau, the Turaga na Tui Nayau, Sau ni Vanua o Lau, Tuilau.

This handover, which took place in Suva, brought together leadership from both organisations. Representing Wormald were General Manager Mr. Ravinesh Deo and Fire Systems Manager Ms. Losavati Sikivou. Receiving the donation on behalf of NFA were Chief Fire Officer Mr. Qionilau Mocetai, Divisional Fire Officer Central Mr. Naibuka Nakavo, and Station Officer NCC Mrs. Rokowati Crocker.

The upcoming installation, to be held in Tubou Village, Lakeba, is expected to draw over 10,000 people, from government dignitaries to regional royals and members of the public. As the island braces to host this momentous gathering, the need for robust safety measures becomes paramount. The influx of visitors increased vehicular movement, makeshift cooking setups, and temporary electrical installations all contribute to an elevated risk profile, one that the NFA has been proactively planning for.

“This donation could not have come at a more critical time,” said Chief Fire Officer Qionilau Mocetai. “We’re preparing not just for a ceremony, but for the safe preservation of a tradition that holds immense significance to our people. Wormald’s support empowers us to uphold our duty of care while honouring our cultural heritage.”

The extinguishers and fire blankets will be strategically deployed in areas identified as high-risk during the NFA’s ongoing pre-event assessments. Two Fire Officers are already stationed in Lakeba and Nayau, inspecting homes and public spaces, and installing smoke detectors in residences designated to host Government dignitaries and members of the Tongan Royal Family.

Beyond equipment placement, the donation will also serve an educational purpose. The extinguishers will be used by NFA officers during live fire safety demonstrations, part of an island wide awareness campaign designed to train and empower community fire wardens. This hands-on engagement allows local residents to become first responders in their own right, especially in remote locations where formal emergency services may take longer to arrive.

“Our focus extends far beyond response, it’s about building resilience,” Mocetai continued. “These tools will support not only the event, but also the long-term safety of our communities through ongoing training and community engagement.”

Speaking during the ceremony, Mr. Ravinesh Deo emphasized the company’s broader vision for community support:

“At Wormald, we believe safety is everyone’s responsibility. We’re honoured to support the National Fire Authority’s mission, especially in an event that unites our people in tradition and pride. This partnership is just the beginning, we are committed to deepening our collaboration with NFA, including further support from Wormald Australia in the near future.”

This gesture represents more than the handover of safety equipment, it marks a meaningful alignment between the public and private sectors. It is a reminder that true safety is built not in isolation, but through partnership, trust, and a shared vision for a stronger, safer Fiji.

The National Fire Authority extends its heartfelt appreciation to Wormald Fire & Security for their timely and thoughtful support. As both organisations continue to walk this path together, their collaboration stands as a model of how purposeful action can protect both people and culture.
